Hello, I'm wondering if anyone can give any advice. My lower left gum has a swelling, it is totally painless and I have had it for about 3 years. I told my dentist of it 3 yrs ago and she commented that it was just due to stress as I had been grinding my teeth(and had been stressed). So I left it. Over the past 3 years, it has sometimes got bigger, then goes down. At a routine exam last week, I mentioned it again and this time she seem concerned, took an xray and diagnosed it as a root abcess. And - the only treatment offered was a root canal, of which she said had only 10% chance of working or extraction! I was pretty shocked by this. she put me on antibiotics (Amoxcillin) and its gone down a bit. Thing is, I'm terrified of root canal treatments as a drill came off in my mouth when having one done 7 yrs ago (different tooth), and the fact that it is not causing me any grief...do I really need to mess with it? I'm trying gargling with wheatgrass and ACV..will also get some propolis tincture..but in the meantime..any professionals out there with sound advice? Funny enough, I met someone today at work who had just had a root canal treatment gone wrong and tooth had to be pulled anyway...so I dont want to go there. Im also concerned she didnt pick it up 3 yrs ago..but it hasnt been a problem since. Any advice appreciated. Big thanks.
