My dad has just been diagnosed with a primary SCC of his tongue just 2 months after completing RT and chemo for throat SCC. He is listed for hemiglossectomy and neck disecction on 21st Dec. My question to all those who gave undergone the surgery is how long dod it take to recover and did you regain speech/swallow?
I believe it is rare to develop another primary while still on treatment, is there anyone out there who has already been through this?
My dad is only 68 but quite frail now and in a lot of pain. I suppose I want to know if the people who have been through the surgery would do it all again with the benefit of hindsight, is it worth it?
