Help for mom please.

In 2009 my mother was diagnosed with tonsil cancer, it was an unbelievably dreadful time, and the people on these boards were wonderful. Thankfully mom got through her treatment and 10 years later is still here to tell the tale as she says.

She has had massive problems eating and drinking since, and despite all the help, therapy & tests nothing has really helped. She is now on a fairly liquid died buy constantly aspirates food. Her chest has become weaker and she has suffered a particularly bad chest infection of late, a chest CT following this has revealed she has scarring (fibrosis) of the lungs. The doctors seem relatively unconcerned, she has apparently had it for some years according to previous tests and nobody even told us! They think it could be related to aspirating food.

The doctors have just been giving her antibiotics which haven't been particularly effective. My concern is over the long term (she is 70 this year) with constant aspiration she is going to get more unwell and eventually lead to pneumonia. I don't really know what to do. The doctors won't refer to a lung specialist. She is due a checkup at ENT in the next couple of weeks but I don't know what else they can do that they haven't already tried.

Im worried about it but also stumped at what to do next, does anybody have any ideas? She beat cancer so I'm determined it won't have the last laugh and get her this way. She is loving her life and retirement after 50 years working and I don't want it cut short. Thanks guys.
