Thanks to the MCF Hyde Park event falling on the weekend of my 50th birthday I was able to invite Brenda (Brady) to my party as she was coming all the way down to London to take part in the walk.
My party was a last minute idea as I am living one week at a time due to my advancing illness. I postponed my last chemo so that I would be well enough to enjoy it and so on Sat 18th 75 people gathered to eat, drink, dance and have fun.
Brenda was the star guest and very bravely took the microphone and read out a poem she had written for me, in front of all those people!
I would like to share it with you for 2 reasons, firstly to show that meeting people on the internet is not always bad! And secondly because we had a 'silent' collection afterwards for the MCF and raised £300.
So here it is:
SUE IS MY MATE, BUT WE'VE NEVER MET,
OUR FRIENDSHIP GREW STRONG ON THE INTERNET,
NOT LOOKING FOE LOVE OR A LONG LASTING RELATION,
WE FOUND EACH OTHER THROUGH THE MOUTH CANCER FOUNDATION.
HER HELP, SUPPORT AND OCCASIONAL JOKE,
GAVE LOVE AND A LAUGH TO THE MOUTH CANCER FOLK.
IT'S AN HONOUR TO BE HERE - WE BOTH SHARE A BOND.
TOGETHER WE'LL BEAT IT- WHO NEEDS AN "EFFING" WAND!!!
(The wand refers to a little fairy wand I posted to Brenda to help banish the little bas-ard tumours).
PS Don't tell Vinod how much Champagne I had!
