Reply to "Lump INSIDE Tongue"

Hello all,

I’ve read every post here, and although the OP is close to 15 years ago... I’m relieved to see I’m “not the only one”.  I’m 41 female, trim and in good health.  I first noticed the “pea-sized lump” INSIDE my tongue around age 19-20.  It would be sore, and would be more prominent and larger in the mornings, and come and go depending on who knows what.  It was like a painful tiny hard balloon.  It felt like a marble had been implanted inside my tongue.  It pop in out of nowhere, stuck around for a day or a week, and eventually it would shrink in size and soreness and come back some other time just the same.  I couldn’t come up with any coincidental triggers.  I had seen my dentist and ent, who (to my terrible memory) didn’t know what it was and weren’t concerned about it.

Around age 30, I needed to have my tonsils removed (glad I never have to do that again) and I had the ent see about my “marble” while he was at it.  He said it was a vascular cyst of some kind, where there was a vein going through my tongue, and it just ended and pooled in that spot.  (Another thread, another time, I have major painful veins going THROUGH every muscle in my left leg... some kind of vascular anomaly)  He removed the lump pool, cauterized the supply to it, and stitched the tongue back up.  That spot was sore for awhile and until completely healed, would occasionally bleed when I held my tongue tight (while brushing teeth, etc.)   No marble or pea for maybe 5 years (just a guess).

I started to notice that I was having the same soreness come and go again... did you guess that it’s now further back inside my tongue?  That same darn vein that was cut off, is now pooling at its new end.  I certain the same procedure would bring me the same result.  Upon my touching it, I can feel the soreness of the “supply” to the bump too.  I’m wondering if there is a way to inject the vein and kill it.

As I mentioned earlier, I have many many sore veins going THROUGH muscles, and most of them are “extra”, no real function other than make standing painful.  I’ve had many of them treated with  laser therapy, sclerotherapy, ablation, phlebectomy, vein stripping, and compression stockings.  I only mention this because I believe the “unexplained sore lump INSIDE the tongue” is related.

Has anyone with the same lump had it removed, and had it return?
